A message to our customers - March 16, 2020
Dear Friends and Fans of Greenlight,
At Greenlight Bookstore, we've always been proud that we're the store that opened its doors when there was a blizzard, or a hurricane, or a transit shutdown, or any number of other disasters that hit our city and community. We love to be the place that people gather to support each other, and to rely on the deep comforts of books and stories.
But this is a disaster that demands the opposite response. In order to best support our neighbors, we need to NOT provide a space to gather, so we can do our part to slow the spread of coronavirus, especially among the most vulnerable in our communities. We've already canceled many of our events and shortened our hours, but the moment has come to do more.
As of this afternoon, Greenlight Bookstore (and our stationery store Yours Truly, Brooklyn) are closed to the public. This is an incredibly difficult and challenging decision for us as a small business, and we know we're not alone in making hard decisions.
The good thing? We're not going away. We still intend to be your neighborhood resource for books and connection - we're just going to have to get creative about it. Here are some of the ways we're doing that starting today, with more to come.
1) Our ecommerce platform at greenlightbookstore.com is open for business! We are still offering shipping anywhere in the US (and shipping is free for orders over $100). For "pick up in store" orders, we hope to be able to offer curbside pickup starting in the next couple of days; you'll get more information about that when you place your order.
2) We're moving some of our book groups to Zoom! Book group leaders will reach out to their email lists with info in the next couple of days, and dates may change; check our Book Groups page and reach out to individual book group hosts if you have questions or you'd like to join a meeting.
3) We're continuing to look for creative solutions to provide interesting encounters with authors, including livestreaming events and offering signed copies; we'll let you know more about those options as they are confirmed.
4) We'll be on social media with book recommendations, day in the life posts, and more to help you stay connected with the book world.
We'd love to hear from you (especially on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) - let us know what the bookstore means to you and what we can do to continue to help. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy - we'll navigate these next steps together.
