Book Launch: William Hogeland presents Autumn of the Black Snake
Wine reception to follow
In Autumn of the Black Snake, Greenlight neighbor William Hogeland, called one of the best historians in America, draws vivid portraits of woodland battles, hardball politics, and how greed, honor, political beliefs, and vivid personalities converged in a moment of American history. When the Revolutionary War ended in 1783, the newly independent United States savored its victory and hoped for a great future. And yet the republic soon found itself within a grisly defeat of American militiamen by a confederation of Shawnee, Miami, and Delaware Indians, resulting in one thousand U.S. casualties. In this debacle, George Washington saw an urgent lesson: the United States needed an army. Hogeland presents the ideas and stories in his mesmerizing book with an interactive lecture, followed by a wine reception to celebrate the book’s launch.
