Want Book Club with Lynn Steger Strong discusses Corregidora

Greenlight is honored to partner with Brooklyn author Lynn Steger Strong to provide books for her book club exploring the many titles referenced in her brilliant beloved new novel Want.  In Strong’s own words: “Want attempts to be about a lot of things, but one of its underlying tensions is both the limits and the power of reading and thinking and writing in the broader world. Over a period of six months, looking at six different books, all of which are mentioned in Want, we will talk about what different books accomplish, how they portray individual experiences worth seeing and considering and putting out into the broader world, how these books are constructed and what that says about the choices made in the process of construction. We will think about the conversation each of these books are a part of, how they push them forward, what they're saying and showing that is new and necessary to be heard. Each Zoom link will include a link to an organization that is doing concrete on the ground work in the worlds these books are exploring. For our first book, Gayl Jones' Corregidora, which, in part, examines the generational trauma experienced by an individual Black woman, participants will be encouraged to contribute to The Loveland Foundation, an organization devoted to providing funds for mental healthcare for Black women.”
