W. Scott Poole presents In the Mountains of Madness: The Life, Death, and Extraordinary Afterlife of H.P. Lovecraft
In conversation with Victor LaValle

W. Scott Poole, author of Vampira: Dark Goddess of Horror and the award-winning history Monsters in America, turns his attention to the godfather of American horror, H. P. Lovecraft, in a magisterial biography proving the undying influence of this rare and significant figure. Poole interweaves the biography of the legendary writer with an exploration of Lovecraft as a phenomenon, while also challenging some of the views held by Lovecraft devotees. Victor LaValle (Big Machine, The Devil in Silver) writes “H.P. Lovecraft is having one hell of a resurgence. Luckily, the author of the man’s latest biography is the smart, shrewd, and insightful W. Scott Poole.” Poole discusses the life and legacy of Lovecraft with LaValle, whose most recent novella The Ballad of Black Tom is a reworking of Lovecraft’s The Horror at Red Hook.
