Tessa Hadley presents Late in the Day
In conversation with Kate Walbert
Greenlight hosts British author Tessa Hadley for her first novel since her breakout book (and Greenlight First Editions Club pick) The Past. Late in the Day offers a complex, unvarnished vision of marriage and friendship played out through the intricately intertwined lives of two middle-aged couples. When long-established, comfortable patterns are irrevocably altered by a death, the dynamic shifts among the survivors, collapsing a carefully-balanced house of cards. The book finds Hadley working at the height of her powers as a novelist whose talent, the New York Times says, “is to take these small details of everyday life and build them into stirring narratives. Hadley gives space to the smallest emotional currents, allowing them to expand.” She presents her book in conversation with Kate Walbert, friend of Greenlight and acclaimed author of six books including His Favorites and The Sunken Cathedral.
