Squawkin’ Sports Party
Hosted by Patrick Sauer and David J. Roth
Featuring Ben Mathis-Lilley and Jason Reid
Tickets: $10, $32, or $59
Created and hosted by writers Patrick Sauer and David J. Roth, Squawkin’ Sports is an ongoing series featuring book chats with grown-up authors writing about grown-ups playing kiddie games. This month, Squawkin' Sports is hosting a special in-person event at Die Stammkneipe Brooklyn (710 Fulton St.). Sauer and Roth chat with authors Ben Mathis-Lilley and Jason Reid, authors respectively of The Hot Seat: A Year of Outrage, Pride, and Occasional Games of College Football and Rise of the Black Quarterback: What it Means for America. The Hot Seat is an account of one of the wildest years in Michigan football history, as well as an exploration of the all-consuming culture of fandom, and why it matters. In Rise of the Black Quarterback, Reid chronicles the shameful history of the treatment of Black players in the NFL and the breakout careers of a thrilling new generation of Black quarterbacks. Join us at DSK for a Squawkin' Sports interview and party, and then stick around to watch Thursday Night Football.
