Katy Simpson Smith presents The Everlasting
In conversation with Rivka Galchen
Katy Simpson Smith (We Have Raised All of You: Motherhood in the South, 1750-1835; The Story of Land and Sea; Free Men) presents her third novel, set in Rome across four centuries. The Everlasting follows the stories of four characters: an early Christian child martyr; a medieval monk at work in the putridarium; a Medici princess of Moorish descent and dubious legitimacy; and a contemporary field biologist conducting an illicit affair. Through it all Satan travels with them, narrating their struggles with bitter and biting commentary, offering counsel no one hears. Smith recreates Rome again and again in vivid detail, charting the illustrious growth of city whose every stone is a moment in Western history. This brilliant and inventive novel raises a profound and timeless question at the heart of faith: What is our duty to each other, and what will God forgive? Smith is joined in (virtual) conversation by fellow author Rivka Galchen, author of Atmospheric Disturbances and Little Labors.
Please note: Katy Simpson Smith will send signed bookplates to each person who purchases the book from Greenlight! Bookplates will be mailed separately (please allow extra time for signing and mailing); book orders will be processed as usual.
