Sarah Gerard presents Sunshine State
In conversation with Julie Buntin
Wine reception to follow
Sarah Gerard burst onto the literary scene with her debut novel Binary Star, which was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Award for First Fiction. Her latest book, Sunshine State, a collection of essays that blends memoir and investigative journalism, has received extensive praise from critics and authors alike, and has been selected as The Millions Most Anticipated Books of the Year. In Sunshine State, Gerard uses her experiences growing up along Florida’s Gulf Coast to explore intimacy, addiction, identity, religion, homelessness and incarceration, asking questions about what it means to be from a place and how that place defines us. Gerard is joined by Julie Buntin, director of writing programs at Catapult and whose debut novel Marlena is forthcoming from Henry Holt.
