In conversation with author Tiphanie Yanique
Refreshments provided
Robert Antoni received the NALIS Lifetime Literary Award from the Trinidad & Tobago National Library for his landmark novel Divina Trace, and was a Guggenheim Fellow for his work on his new novel As Flies to Whatless Boys. An adventure-packed story of an idealistic but ill-fated British incursion into the island of Trinidad in 1845, the novel has been praised by fellow writers including Edwidge Danticat, Marlon James, and Tiphanie Yanique, who writes, “Like the preserved hummingbirds at its center, this novel is a tender and strange object, referencing something no longer with us, but maintained in its beauty as art.” Antoni talks about his work and the stories of the New World tonight with Yanique, a Greenlight neighbor and author of the Caribbean-set story collection How to Escape from a Leper Colony. A reception with beer provided by publisher Akashic Books will follow the discussion.
