Poetry Salon: Renia White presents Casual Conversation
In conversation with Aracelis Girmay and hosted by Angel Nafis
Created and hosted by poet and former Greenlight bookseller Angel Nafis, Greenlight’s Poetry Salon welcomes locally and nationally celebrated poets for a powerful and moving evening of poetry and performance. This May, for the first time in over two years, our Poetry Salon returns to our Fort Greene events stage. We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome back these special, reverent evenings, starting with poets Renia White, author of the new collection Casual Conversation, and Aracelis Girmay (The Black Maria), who selected it for BOA Editions's Blessing the Boats Selections. White’s debut poetry collection strikes up a conversation, considering what’s being said, what isn’t, and where it all comes from, probing the norms and mores of everyday interactions. White imagines a new way of knowing—a way that encourages us to think through how we structure and stratify ourselves—and challenges us to question whether there is anything casual about this life. Join us on Fulton Street for an evening of reading and thinking together in the reverent and joyful space held by our masterful host Angel Nafis.
