Book Launch: Nicole Taylor presents The Up South Cookbook: Chasing Dixie in a Brooklyn Kitchen
In conversation with Patrick Martins
Food and drinks provided by Greene Grape, Brooklyn Delhi, Heritage Foods USA, and Owney's Rum
Georgia native Nicole Taylor spent her early twenties trying to distance herself from her southern cooking roots, but the move "up" to Brooklyn gave her a fresh appreciation for the bread and biscuits, fried chicken, Lemon Coconut Stack Cake, and other flavors of her childhood. Now Taylor, host of the popular online radio show and podcast Hot Grease, showcases the best of these recipes in The Up South Cookbook. Simplicity and authenticity give these recipes a unique flavor, while Taylor's charisma shines through in her prose, and she's not afraid to tweak some of her recipes, from Pimento Cheese without mayonnaise to Pumpkin and Grits. Nicole talks about her book and the intersection of Southern and Brooklyn foodways with Patrick Martins, founder of Heritage Foods USA and Heritage Radio Network and author of The Carnivore's Manifesto. Join us to celebrate the ne book at Greene Grape Annex, with special cocktails from Taylor’s recipes for sale and snacks from the book provided by Brooklyn Delhi, Heritage Foods USA, and Owney's Rum.
Greene Grape Annex is located across the street from the bookstore at 753 Fulton Street.
