NEW LGBTQIA+ Book Group with Kadie
Discussion of The Stars and the Blackness Between Them

Led (virtually) by Greenlight / Yours Truly, Brooklyn staffer Kadie, our new LGBTQIA+ book group discusses titles that center LGBTQIA+ stories and authors, reading across genres (fiction, nonfiction poetry etc.) and age groups (middle grade, young adult and adult) creating open dialogue around the fantasticness that is LGBTQIA+ stories and storytellers. This is the book club for you, your tween, ya mom, and gay auntie too!  For January, the group discusses Junauda Petrus’s Coretta Scott King Honor-winning YA novel The Stars and the Blackness Between Them. Told in two distinct and irresistible voices, this bold and lyrical debut is the story of two black girls from very different backgrounds finding love and happiness in a world that seems determined to deny them both.  Petrus brilliantly captures the distinctly lush and lyrical voices of Mabel (from Minneapolis) and Audre (from Trinidad) as they conjure a love that is stronger than hatred, prison, and death and as vast as the blackness between the stars.
