Never Can Say Goodbye: Writers On Their Unshakable Love for New York

In 2013 Greenlight hosted a fantastic reading for Sari Botton’s sleeper hit anthology Goodbye To All That: Writers on Loving and Leaving New York. While that book was inspired by Joan Didion’s classic essay about loving and leaving Manhattan, Botton’s new anthology Never Can Say Goodbye is a pure celebration of staying (at least in spirit) in the city that never sleeps. In the tradition of E.B. White’s classic essay, “Here is New York,” a diverse assortment of renowned writers and notable New Yorkers share their stories of the often challenging, sometimes contradictory, yet always unforgettable city. In twenty-five original essays, writers ruminate on how they fell in love with New York City, warts and all, and why it will always be home — even if they no longer live there. Botton hosts a star-studded reading of contributors to the anthology, including Alexander Chee (Edinburgh), Stephen Elliott (The Adderall Diaries), Anna Holmes (The Book of Jezebel), and Adelle Waldman (The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P.).
