Book Launch: Maisy Card presents These Ghosts Are Family
In conversation with Kaitlyn Greenidge
Reception to follow
Maisy Card’s luminous debut, These Ghosts Are Family, moves backward and forward through time, from colonial Jamaica to present-day Harlem, to piece together a family history fractured by slavery, immigration, infidelity, regret, and finally redemption. Stanford Solomon has a shocking, thirty-year-old secret. He is actually Abel Paisley, a man who faked his own death and stole the identity of his best friend. Now, nearing the end of his life, he decides to come clean, gathering his female descendants in one house to tell them the truth. These Ghosts Are Family revolves around the consequences of Abel’s decisions and explores the ways each character wrestles with their ghosts and struggles to forge independent identities outside of the family and their trauma. This electric family saga announces the arrival of a new American talent. Joining Card in conversation is Kaitlyn Greenidge, author of the critically-acclaimed We Love You, Charlie Freeman, and a reception follows to celebrate the launch!
