Lynn Melnick presents I've Had to Think Up a Way to Survive: On Trauma, Persistence, and Dolly Parton
In conversation with Hafizah Augustus Geter!
Greenlight is very excited to host author and poet Lynn Melnick at our Flatbush store in order to celebrate her new memoir, I've Had to Think Up a Way to Survive. When everything fell apart for Lynn, she went to Dollywood. In this bracing memoir, "beyond mere tribute, and beyond biography" (Hanif Abdurraqib), Melnick explores Dolly Parton’s dual identities as feminist icon and objectified sex symbol—identities that reflect the author’s own fraught history with rape culture and the grueling effort to reclaim her voice in the wake of loss and trauma. Join us in welcoming Melnick along with Hafizah Augustus Geter, author of the new memoir The Black Period, for an evening of reading, conversation, and all things Dolly Parton.
