Kevin Young presents Book of Hours
Introduction by poet Tracy K. Smith
Kevin Young is the author of seven acclaimed books of poetry and the editor of eight other collections,; his book The Grey Album: On the Blackness of Blackness, was a New York Times Notable Book and a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for criticism. With his new collection Book of Hours, we witness the unfolding of grief a decade after the sudden and tragic loss of his father: a loss transformed and tempered by the birth of his son. Young’s frank music speaks directly to the reader in these elemental poems, reminding us that the right words can both comfort us and enlarge our understanding of life’s mysteries. Young is introduced by Brooklyn poet Tracy K. Smith, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for her recent collection Life On Mars, who recently recorded a reading of "Crowning," from Book of Hours on The New Yorker website.
