Jake Appleman presents Brooklyn Bounce: The Highs and Lows of Nets Basketball’s First Season in the Borough
In conversation with sportswriter Howard Beck
Life-long New Yorker and widely published sportswriter Jake Appleman goes inside Barclays Center to offer an in-depth look at the Brooklyn Nets basketball team, as well as a rumination on the meaning of the sport. In his book Brooklyn Bounce, newly published in paperback, Appleman takes readers on a journey not only with the Nets — Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, Jerry Stackhouse, Kris Humphries, Avery Johnson — but with the other celebrities inhabiting their world, and the more obscure figures with stories to tell. Appleman uses the Nets’ first season as a prism for exploring the diverse cultural texture of Brooklyn, and the historic meaning of sports in the borough, and looks at how the newly built home of the Nets, the Barclays Center, is literally and figuratively altering the landscape of the borough. Howard Beck, a national NBA writer for Turner Sport's Bleacher Report who previously covered the NBA for the LA Daily News and New York Times, joins Appleman for a conversation about basketball and Brooklyn.
