Ibi Zoboi presents My Life as an Ice Cream Sandwich
In conversation with Rita Williams-Garcia
Beloved National Book Award-finalist Ibi Zoboi (American Street, Pride) returns to Greenlight to present her middle-grade debut, My Life as an Ice Cream Sandwich. Zoboi brings 1980’s Harlem to life in this heartwarming story of a girl finding her place in a world that's changing at warp speed. Twelve-year-old Ebony-Grace Norfleet has lived with her beloved grandfather Jeremiah in Huntsville, Alabama ever since she was little. As one of the first black engineers to integrate NASA, Jeremiah has nurtured Ebony-Grace’s love for all things outer space and science fiction. But when trouble arises with Jeremiah, it’s decided that Ebony-Grace will spend a few weeks with her father in Harlem. Ebony-Grace’s first instinct is to retreat into her imagination, but, by summer's end, she discovers that Harlem has a place for a girl whose eyes are always on the stars. Ibi Zoboi will discuss her book with celebrated, award-winning author Rita Williams-Garcia at Greenlight.
