Algonquin Authors in Conversation
Heather Abel presents The Optimistic Decade
Lisa Ko presents The Leavers
Moderated by Mira Jacob
Greenlight is thrilled to present an evening of conversation between debut Algonquin authors Heather Abel and Lisa Ko, moderated by author Mira Jacob. Heather Abel presents her new novel The Optimistic Decade, an energetic story of revolution set at a utopian summer camp. Framed by the oil shale bust and the real estate boom, by protests against Reagan and against the Gulf War, the novel takes us into the lives of five unforgettable characters with a sweeping story about idealism, love, class, and a piece of land that changes everyone who lives on it. Lisa Ko presents her award-winning debut The Leavers, a finalist for the National Book Award and newly released in paperback. Inspired by recent, real-life stories of undocumented immigrant women whose U.S.-born children were taken away from them and adopted by American families, while the women themselves were jailed or deported, The Leavers is an unforgettable story of immigration, adoption, and lives lived across borders. Abel and Ko discuss their work with Mira Jacob, author of The Sleepwalker’s Guide to Dancing, followed by a signing and Q&A.
