Book launch: Grace Lavery presents Pleasure and Efficacy: Of Pen Names, Cover Versions, and Other Trans Techniques
In conversation with Jack Halberstam

Greenlight is thrilled to welcome back leading trans scholar, author, and activist Grace Lavery (Please Miss) to our stage to celebrate the launch of her latest book, Pleasure and Efficacy. Lavery investigates gender transition as it has been experienced and represented in the modern period, considering examples that range from George Eliot to Sigmund Freud, and explores the skepticism found in such works about whether it is truly possible to change one's sex. Contesting claims for the impossibility of transition, she offers a counter-history, passed on by women to women, that comprises a body of knowledge written in the margins of history. Need we say more? Lavery will be joined by special guest Jack Halberstam for yet another genre and gender-bending evening.
