Gabourey Sidibe presents This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare
In conversation with Carla Bruce-Eddings
Tickets $28 (includes seat and book)
At Tuohy Hall
Gabourey Sidibe—“Gabby” to her legion of fans—skyrocketed to international fame in 2009 when she played the leading role in Lee Daniels’s acclaimed movie Precious, based on Sapphire’s novel Push. In her new memoir, she shares a one-of-a-kind life story in a voice as fresh and challenging as many of the unique characters she’s played onscreen. Sidibe’s book explores her Bed-Stuy/Harlem family life, her first job as a phone sex “talker,” and her unconventional rise to fame as a movie star, with self-knowing dispatches on friendship, depression, celebrity, haters, race, and weight. At tonight’s event Sidibe screens the trailer for her directorial debut, The Tale of Four, and talks about her work on stage with Carla Bruce-Eddings, Books Editor for Well Read Black Girl. Book signing to follow.
Note: Lena Dunham, who was scheduled to interview Gabby for this event, has had to cancel for health reasons; we're grateful to Carla for stepping in!
Each $28 ticket includes admission to the event, as well as a hardcover copy of This Is Just My Face; books are distributed at the event.
