IN-PERSON: Live at DSK Brooklyn!
Tuesday, March 14, 7:30 PM ET
Fiction Book Group with Alexis
Discussing Sudden Death by Álvaro Enrigue
Translated by Natasha Wimmer
Hosted by our neighbors at Die Stammkneipe Brooklyn (710 Fulton St.) and led by former Greenlight general manager Alexis, our fiction book group meets monthly to discuss paperback fiction, reading broadly in contemporary fiction with the occasional diversion into classics. For March, the group will discuss Sudden Death from Álvaro Enrigue, translated by Natasha Wimmer. Álvaro Enrigue's mind-bending story tells the grand adventure of the dawn of the modern era, breaking down traditions and upending expectations, in this bold, powerful gut-punch of a novel. Translated by Natasha Wimmer, who also translated Roberto Bolaño, the Mexican-born author imagines a 16th century tennis match between the Italian painter Caravaggio and the Spanish poet Francisco de Quevedo played with a ball made from the hair of the beheaded Anne Boleyn. And then things really get strange.
Book group meetings will be held in DSK's private meeting space; enter through the bar.
Drinks and food available for purchase; one item purchase minimum is encouraged! Fiction book group hosts hybrid meetings—if you would prefer to attend virtually, you can register via Zoom.
