Fort Greene Fiction Book Group discusses By Night in Chile and Fever Dream
Led by Greenlight general manager Alexis, our fiction book group in Fort Greene discusses paperback fiction, reading broadly in contemporary fiction with the occasional diversion into classics. For January, the group discusses two complimentary novels: Roberto Bolano's wild, eerily compact By Night in Chile and Samanta Schweblin’s blazing, surreal debut novel Fever Dream. As through a crack in the wall, the single night-long rant that makes up Bolano’s novel provides a terrifying, clandestine view of the strange bedfellows of Church and State in Chile. Heart-stopping and hypnotic, By Night in Chile marks the American debut of an astonishing writer. Fever Dream is a nightmare come to life, a ghost story for the real world, a love story and a cautionary tale. One of the freshest new voices to come out of the Spanish language and translated into English for the first time, Schweblin creates an aura of strange psychological menace and otherworldly reality in this absorbing, unsettling, taut novel.
Current book group picks are always 15% off at Greenlight, in the store or online.
