Independent bookstores Duende District and Greenlight Bookstore partner to host a night highlighting and celebrating Latinx youth political engagement, featuring authors Lynda Lopez and Natalia Sylvester. Lopez’s book AOC: The Fearless Rise and Powerful Resonance of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, explores the multiple meanings, from seventeen contributing writers’ points of view, of a young Latina politician who has already made history. Just thirty, AOC represents her generation, the millennials, in many groundbreaking ways: proudly working class, Democratic Socialist, of Puerto Rican descent, master of social media, not to mention of the Bronx, feminist—and a great dancer. In AOC contributor Sylvester’s Running, fifteen-year-old Cuban-American Mariana Ruiz starts to see her father with new eyes when he runs for president. This authentic and humorous YA debut is about waking up and speaking out as Mari fights to find her voice while the whole world is watching. Lopez and Sylvester are joined in conversation by members of the Latin American Youth Center and the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
