Elisha Cooper presents Falling: A Daugher, a Father, and a Journey Back
In conversation with Leslie Jamison
Elisha Cooper is the author of the picture books Beach, Train, Farm, Dance! Homer, and, most recently, 8: An Animal, Alphabet, as well as the memoirs A Year in New York and Crawling: A Father’s First Year. He is also a great friend of Greenlight who has participated in countless story times and celebrations, and designed our awesome kids t-shirts! His newest memoir, Falling, is the story of Cooper’s attempts to navigate his daughter’s fight with cancer. The book has been highly praised by fellow authors including Julia Glass, Cynthia Zarin, and Leslie Jamison, who calls Falling “a beautiful book that knows so much about love and uncertainty. It knows that life isn’t made of Grand Sweeping Truths but of particular moments–moments of sublimity and irritation, soccer balls kicked into rivers and sandwiches eaten in pediatric oncology wards. This book left me deeply moved, full of admiration, and vibrating with gratitude for the ordinary moments of my own family’s life.” Cooper discusses his book and the art of personal nonfiction with Jamison, author of The Empathy Exams.
