Book Launch: Dan Poppick presents Fear of Description
Featuring readings by Mónica de la Torre, Anaïs Duplan, and Christian Schlegel
Reception to follow
Fear of Description, Dan Poppick’s second collection and a winner of the 2018 National Poetry Series competition, explores the slippery terrain between grief and friendship, artifice and technology, writing and ritual, hauntings and obsessions. From Midwestern bars to Brooklyn apartments, Poppick’s autobiographical narrative poems focus on friendship and art as they follow a group of millennial poets adrift in political upheaval and personal crisis, trying to find their way back to one another, and unveil a generation at odds with its own ideals, precariously (or just un-) employed, and absolutely terrified of seeing where they may fit in the planet’s future. Fellow poets Mónica de la Torre, Anaïs Duplan, and Christian Schlegel open for Poppick at tonight’s event; a wine reception follows to celebrate the book’s launch.
