Book Launch: Carlene Bauer presents Girls They Write Songs About
In conversation with Darcey Steinke
Greenlight welcomes Brooklyn-based author Carlene Bauer back to our events stage for the first time since 2013(!) to celebrate the launch of her newest novel, Girls They Write Songs About—a thrumming, searching story about the bonds that shape us more than any love affair. New York, 1997. As the city’s gritty edges are being smoothed into something safer and shinier, two girls meet at a music magazine. Their lives careen through marriage, motherhood, divorce, career glories and catastrophes, and a million small but necessary choices, and ultimately hone in on the possibility that they might have to give up their dreaming together. In this power ballad to female friendship, Bauer renders a moving and thoughtful story of how desire and ambition change over time and what it takes to carve out a path and life of one’s own. Bauer will be joined by acclaimed author and friend of Greenlight Darcey Steinke (Easter Everywhere; Sister Golden Hair) at our Fulton St. store for a reading and conversation celebrating those once-in-a-lifetime friendships that change—no, co-create—us.
