Brian Platzer presents Bed-Stuy Is Burning
In conversation with Simone Oliver
Wine reception to follow
Local author Brian Platzer presents Bed-Stuy Is Burning, a debut novel about a changing neighborhood and its residents, set over the course of one cataclysmic day in Brooklyn. After a cop shoots a boy in a nearby park, and conflict escalates to rioting, the lives of six Bed-Stuy residents are changed indelibly. Bed-Stuy Is Burning tells the story of Aaron, a disgraced rabbi turned Wall Street banker; Amelia, his journalist girlfriend; Antoinette, devout nanny to Aaron and Amelia's son; Jupiter, the single father who lives on their block with his son, Derek; Daniel, Aaron's unhinged tenant in their basement unit; and Sara, a smart local girl, broiling with confusion and rage. As the day unfolds, these characters are forced to reckon with who they are and what truly matters to them. Platzer presents his book in conversation with fellow Bed-Stuy resident and New York City native Simone Oliver, editor and former Digital Director at Allure, followed by a wine reception.
