Book Launch Party: David Ewalt presents Of Dice and Men: The Story of Dungeons & Dragons and the People Who Play It
Refreshments provided

David Ewalt, Forbes senior editor and longtime friend of Greenlight Bookstore, has written the definitive book on a game that defined a generation: Dungeons and Dragons. Of Dice and Men tells the game’s fascinating history from its roots on the battlefields of ancient Europe, through the hysteria that linked it to satanic rituals and teen suicides, and to its apotheosis as father of the modern video game industry. In a work described as “Lord of the Rings meets Moneyball,” Ewalt weaves laser-sharp cultural analysis with his own youthful and present-day gaming experiences. Greenlight launches the book on an ocean of wine, beer and cookies with a party at the store.

And anyone who purchases Of Dice and Men from Greenlight (either in the store or on the website) on or before August 23 will receive the date, time, and password to attend a secret D&D party on Saturday, August 24, where they can try the game themselves! Literary gamers including Lev Grossman, Austin Grossman, Victor LaValle and others will be in attendance, and you can get a place at the table: your book is your ticket.  Greenlight is honored to be a key stop on this quest, and to celebrate the development of collaborative storytelling with this debut work by one of our favorite people.

Space at the secret D&D party is limited; invitations will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. If you wish to attend, your paper invitation will be included in your copy of Of Dice and Men on or after the release date of August 20. You must present your paper invitation to receive entry to the secret party. Pre-orders will receive first priority, so order now to reserve your seat at the gaming table!
