Bob Proehl presents A Hundred Thousand Worlds
In conversation with Ryan Britt
Pop culture writer Bob Proehl’s debut novel A Hundred Thousand Worlds tells the story of a mother and son on a cross-country road trip like no other: the mother, the former star of a cult sci-fi TV show, makes appearances at comic book conventions along the way, and the pair encounter superheroes, monsters, time travelers, and robots as they make their way west toward an uncertain reckoning. Praised by fellow authors including Charles Yu, Karen Joy Fowler, and Eleanor Henderson, the novel is a knowing and affectionate portrait of the geeky pleasures of fandom, as well as a tribute to the fierce and complicated love between a mother and son, and to the way the stories we create come to shape us. Proehl talks about his book and fan culture with Ryan Britt, author of Luke Skywalker Can't Read: And Other Geeky Truths.
