Authors in conversation:
Jessica Anthony presents Enter the Aardvark
Deb Olin Unferth presents Barn 8
Fellow authors and friends Jessica Anthony and Deb Olin Unferth come together (virtually!) for a conversation about their new novels, both engaging with the ethics of contemporary political and cultural realities. Anthony’s book Enter the Aardvark is an outrageous, edge-of-your-seat novel that hurtles between a closeted congressman in contemporary Washington, D.C. and a taxidermist in Victorian England. At once a ghost story, a love story, and a stunningly prescient political satire, the novel confronts the consequences of repressed male love meeting oppressive male power, and offers a searing condemnation of our current American blindness. In her wildly inventive but utterly plausible Barn 8, Unferth takes readers into the minds of renegades: animal activists, a farmer’s daughter, a former director of undercover investigations, a forest ranger, and a security guard. Funny and whimsical, philosophical and heartbreaking, Unferth's novel ultimately asks: What constitutes meaningful action in a world so in need of change?
