From homages and studies of iconic images to reflections on Marsha P. Johnson and Aunt Jemima, every poem in Side Notes elevates and illustrates the buoyancy of Blackness and the calamity of Black lives on earth in the midst of systemic oppression that forces some to count down to their last heartbeat.
