Book Launch: Alaa Al Aswany presents The Republic of False Truths
In conversation with Christopher Bollen
Internationally best-selling author Alaa Al Aswany joins Greenlight (virtually!) to launch the U.S. release of his novel The Republic of False Truths (translated by S. R. Fellowes), a heart-pounding story and deeply human portrait of the Egyptian Revolution. Aswany’s novel The Yacoubian Building was the best-selling novel in the Arab world for more than five years. His new book, published in the U.S. in the 10th anniversary year of the demonstrations that swept through Egypt in 2011, has been banned in Egypt for “insulting the president, the Armed Forces, and judicial institutions” for its depictions. Through the lives of a vivid, colliding cast of characters, Aswany explores what the revolution meant to those who lived through it, and takes readers inside the battle raging between those in power and those prepared to lay down their lives in defense of freedom. Aswany is joined in conversation by Christopher Bollen, editor at large of Interview Magazine, contributing editor at Vanity Fair, and author of the literary thriller A Beautiful Crime.
