Reading Around the World with Greenlight Bookstore
Co-hosted by 92Y
In a season where many of us are isolated in our homes, books offer a means of travel, escape, and empathy into other lives. Join the co-owners of Brooklyn’s Greenlight Bookstore, Rebecca Fitting and Jessica Stockton-Bagnulo, as they bring their curation skills to bear with a deep dive into contemporary fiction that’s also a tour of the globe—in all its cultural specificity, universal human experiences, and deep interconnectedness. Each month, prior to meeting online, everyone will read one of the thoughtfully selected books. During the online sessions, Rebecca and Jessica will lead discussions of recent contemporary novels that take readers to new worlds. For the May session, we’ll be discussing Aravind Adiga’s Amnesty which follows an undocumented Sri Lankan immigrant in Australia as he grapples with what to do with his knowledge of a murder. Throughout this program, we’ll also discuss Immortals of Tehran on June 23, Braised Pork on July 28, and A Long Petal of the Sea on August 25.
Registration includes all four hardcover books, which will be sent directly to you.
Shipping will take several days to a week so we encourage you to sign up early!
Please register by May 11 to ensure that you receive the first title and have ample time to read before meeting on May 26. Registration after May 11 cannot ensure such delivery, but we will ship as soon as possible.
