On October 16, 2009, Greenlight Bookstore on Fulton Street sold its first book. On October 24, we hosted an official opening party for a few hundred friends and supporters. Now we're celebrating 10 years as your Brooklyn neighborhood bookstore -- and you're all invited! Here's what we have planned to celebrate this special occasion.
September: The Fort Greene store gets a facelift, with some patching and painting projects to care for the store after 10 years of wear and tear. Things may be a little messy while this is happening, but it will all be worth it to have the store look its best for the anniversary!
Throughout the fall: Greenlight co-hosts special anniversary seasons at BAM, Kings Theatre, and St. Joseph's College, with amazing authors and special tributes to Greenlight (click on links for tickets)
September-October: In the month leading up to October 19, Greenlight rolls out new branded merchandise: one new item per week, with giveaways via social media to highlight each item.
September 23: vinyl sticker
September 30: enamel pin
October 7: pencil case
October 14: ceramic mug
October 10, 7:30 PM: Greenlight hosts an in-store revue titled “#10YearsOfGreenlight: Celebrating Creative Community in Brooklyn” with guest hosts celebrating Greenlight’s varied communities. Poet Angel Nafis reprises her popular quarterly Poetry Salon and discusses the community of poets and writers; and publisher, and Brooklyn Book Festival co-founder Johnny Temple introduces special guest authors and highlights the intersecting communities of local publishers, nonprofits and bookstores. October 19, all day: Greenlight offers 20% off at our Fort Greene store all day as a thanks to their customers! Kids activities and giveaways are offered throughout the day. Click here to RSVP
October 19, 6:30 PM: The climax of the anniversary season arrives, with a huge anniversary party in the store, with drinks, refreshments, special guests, live DJ, and giveaways, as well as toasts to our friends and supporters! When the store closes at 10 PM, the afterparty continues at beloved local bar/restaurant No. 7. Click here to RSVP
