Mary Beth Keane, author of Fever
In conversation with author Eleanor Henderson
Everyone has heard of “Typhoid Mary”— but few know much about the woman who worked in New York as a cook at the turn of the century and unknowingly infected her clients with typhoid fever. In her new novel Fever, critically-acclaimed novelist and recipient of the esteemed “5 Under 35” designation from the National Book Foundation Mary Beth Keane imagines the life of this courageous, headstrong, vilified young Irish immigrant and finds sympathy, stubbornness, a great capacity for cooking, and love. Keane discusses the book and Typhoid Mary’s story with Eleanor Henderson, author of the acclaimed novel Ten Thousand Saints.
