Nelson George presents To Funk and Die in LA

Beer reception to follow

Writer, filmmaker, and producer (and Greenlight neighbor) Nelson George is the author of many books, including the cultural history books Hip Hop America and The Death of Rhythm & Blues, and is a writer for the Netflix series The Get Down. His latest offering is To Funk and Die in LA, the fourth novel in the D Hunter crime-fiction series. The eponymous ex-bodyguard travels from Brooklyn to the City of Angels on a dark mission when his grandfather is shot dead in a drive-by. To Funk and Die in LA is set against the backdrops of the LA neighborhoods of Crenshaw, Koreatown, and Pico-Union--areas where black, Asian, and Latino cultures intersect away from the glamour of Hollywood-- and echoes of the 1992 riots play a significant role in D's investigation. In the tradition of Walter Mosley and Raymond Chandler, and thrumming with the beat of R&B, To Funk and Die in LA is esteemed writer’s contribution to the crime-fiction canon. George presents his work at Greenlight with a signing, Q&A, and reception to follow.
