Book Launch: Marcus Wicker presents Silencer
In conversation with Mahogany L. Browne
Wine reception to follow
Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Oddisee meet traditional verse in a new collection of poems by Pushcart Prize winner and NAACP Image Award finalist Marcus Wicker. In Silencer the poet questions his own faith in God, in hope, in the American Dream, and in himself, grieved by images of gun violence and police brutality. Precisely contradictory and bittersweet, driven by the sounds of hip-hop and reimagined forms and structures, Silencer is where the political and the personal collide. Roxane Gay says, "There is not a moment in this book when you are allowed to forget the complexities of a black man's life in America. These poems evoke so much – strength, beauty, passion, fear." Wicker presents his latest collection with a performance and discussion with Brooklyn-based poet, editor and curator Mahogany L. Browne.
