Book Launch: Jill Filipovic presents The H-Spot: The Feminist Pursuit of Happiness
In conversation with Reniqua Allen
Wine reception to follow
What if achieving success in life for women is not about leaning in, working harder, or ‘having it all’, but about a woman’s right and ability to pursue happiness in her own way? In her new book The H-Spot, Jill Filipovic talks one-on-one to women across America, and examines a world of unfinished feminism – where men have long been able to “have it all” because of free female labor, while women have to work harder than ever (whether to be an accomplished white-collar employee or just make ends meet), and the requirements for being a “good mother” are equally extreme. Jessica Valenti writes, “The H-Spot is the feminist book we’ve all been waiting for.” Filipovic, who contributes regularly to the New York Times (including the viral article “Why Men Want to Marry Melanias and Raise Ivankas”), argues that if our laws and policies made women’s happiness and fulfillment a goal in and of itself, contentious issues from health care to equal pay would be addressed with one fell swoop. Filipovic discusses her book and a feminist philosophy of happiness with freelance journalist Reniqua Allen, followed by a wine reception to celebrate the book's launch.
