Created by Greenlight’s own Angel Nafis, Greenlight Bookstore’s quarterly poetry series, the Greenlight Poetry Salon, welcomes locally and nationally celebrated poets. Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz is the author of six books of poetry as well as the nonfiction book, Words In Your Face: A Guided Tour Through Twenty Years of the New York City Poetry Slam, which Billy Collins writes “leaves no doubt that the slam poetry scene has achieved legitimacy and taken its rightful place on the map of contemporary literature.” Aziza Barnes is the author of the chapbook me Aunt Jemima and the nailgun, and has been published in Muzzle Magazine, West 10th Literary Journal and PLUCK! Fort Greene neighbor Cynthia Lowen is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and poet, and author of The Cloud That Contained the Lightning, winner of the 2012 National Poetry Series selected by Nikky Finney. Kamilah Aisha Moon’s work has been featured in numerous journals and anthologies including Harvard Review, Oxford American, Callaloo, Essence, and Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry; she has taught English and creative writing in diverse settings from conferences to colleges. Join us for what is always a joyful and energetic evening of poetry and performance.
