Reception & signing to follow

Greenlight is proud to participate in Books Beneath the Bridge, a new outdoor literature series in Brooklyn Bridge Park, featuring six evenings curated by local, independent bookstores. On Greenlight’s featured Monday in July, we will host New York author Amor Towles, author of a quintessentially New York story perfect for a summer evening in view of the Brooklyn Bridge. Set in 1938, Rules of Civility tells the story of a watershed year in the life of an uncompromising twenty-five-year- old, starting with an auspicious New Year’s Eve party that leads to the rarified offices of Conde Nast and a glittering new social circle. Towles’ novel, just published in paperback, is a love letter to a great American city at the end of the Depression, evoking the ghosts of Fitzgerald, Capote, and McCarthy. Towle's reading will be accompanied by a local jazz trio performing music that might have been heard in 1938, and followed by a reception with cookies and lemonade.  Admission is free.
