Alex Shakar discusses Luminarium with Susan Choi

Brooklyn native Alex Shakar is the author of The Savage Girl, a New York Times Notable Book, and the story collection City in Love, which won the FC2 National Fiction Competition. His new novel Luminarium moves between the research hospitals of Manhattan, the streets of a meticulously planned Florida city, the neighborhoods of Brooklyn, and the uncanny, immersive worlds of urban disaster simulation. Threading together military listserv geek-speak, Hindu cosmology, the maxims of outmoded self-help books and the latest neuro-scientific breakthroughs, Shakar creates a brilliant exploration of the way we live now. Alex discusses his work with acclaimed Brooklyn novelist Susan Choi, author of the Pulitzer prize finalist novel American Woman and most recently A Person of Interest.
