Alex Gilvarry presents Eastman Was Here
In conversation with Alexandra Kleeman
Alex Gilvarry follows his award-winning debut novel From the Memoirs of a Non-Enemy Combatant with his latest book Eastman Was Here, one of the most hotly-anticipated releases of the season. The year is 1973, and Alan Eastman – washed-up war journalist and husband/philanderer – receives an unexpected and unwelcome phone call from his old rival. Eastman seizes the chance to go to Vietnam to write the definitive account of the end of America’s longest war -- and to renew his old glory and regain the love of the wife who left him. In Eastman Was Here, Gilvarry skewers the literary hypermasculinity of the 1970s and the US after the Vietnam War, telling the story of one irredeemable man’s search for meaning in the face of a changing America. Gilvarry presents his novel in conversation with Alexandra Kleeman, author of You Too Can Have a Body Like Mine, followed by a signing and Q&A.
