Poet and essayist Meghan O’Rourke presents her memoir, The Long Goodbye
Brooklyn-based and award-winning poet and essayist Meghan O’Rourke comes to Greenlight Bookstore for the paperback launch of her highly-acclaimed memoir, The Long Goodbye. After her mother died of cancer at the age of fifty-five, O’Rourke found that nothing had prepared her for the intensity of her sorrow. In the first anguished days, she began to create a record of her interior life as a mourner, trying to capture the paradox of grief -- its monumental agony and microscopic intimacies -- an endeavor that ultimately bloomed into a profound look at how caring for her mother during her illness changed and strengthened their bond. With lyricism and unswerving candor, The Long Goodbye conveys the fleeting moments of joy that make up a life, and the way memory can lead us out of the jagged darkness of loss.

Author & Photographer Takashi Owaki presents Dreams Around The World
Japanese photographer Takashi Owaki traveled to fifty-five countries on six different continents and met 1,460 children, whom he asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Dreams Around the World shares the dreams, stories, and photos of 13 of these children in a full-color picture book. Mr. Owaki will be visiting New York from Tokyo to launch his newly translated book, and he hopes to share this journey with the children of Brooklyn, and hear about their dreams, too! With the help of a Japanese translator, Mr. Owaki will lead kids on a journey around the world at today's Story Time, where they can color in the countries on their own world map and learn about the children who live there. Then kids can write down their own dreams, and Mr. Owaki will take their photo to glue beside it! For ages 3 to 8.
