Educators at Greenlight

Greenlight Bookstore is available to partner with schools of all grades in nearby Brooklyn neighborhoods, and with other New York City schools on a case-by-case basis.  If you’d like to get more information about any of these programs, please use the contact information below.

Book Fairs

Due to COVID-19, Greenlight is currently only able to offer virtual book fair options that include limited fundraising incentives for online shopping for in-store pickup or direct-to-home shipping. Please reach out to schoolpartnerships@greenlightbookstore.com for more information. Thank you!

Greenlight can provide a uniquely curated selection of books for school book fairs.  We work with each school on developing a title list appropriate for students’ reading levels, price range, and special interests, and arrange for book pickup and drop-off.   We can also offer an online purchase option for book fairs.  Greenlight’s staff has years of experience and finely honed expertise in serving Brooklyn’s diverse urban schools, and offers a uniquely local focus, along with feedback and suggested best practices for a successful book fair experience.  Greenlight donates 25% of all book fair sales back to the school as a store credit, providing even more literacy opportunities for students.

FAQs and contact information for school book fairs

Author Visits
Greenlight works with publishers to bring authors to speak at schools, and handle sales of the author’s book to students. Many award-winning children’s authors are local to Brooklyn or come through on book tour, and there is no better way to get kids excited about books than through a presentation with a live author! And these visits are FREE - when you arrange visits through the bookstore, there is no honorarium involved.  Greenlight works with schools to prepare students for the visit, and offers students the chance to preorder authors’ books.  We can also offer book sales onsite at the event or on our website by request. Students’ books are signed by the author at the event.

FAQs and contact information for school book fairs

Library or Classroom Book Drive
For schools working on stocking their library or classrooms with books, Greenlight can create a page on the bookstore’s e-commerce website featuring the school’s desired books. We can work with schools to publicize the school’s book drive to parents and other supporters, who can purchase books online during the drive period; purchased books are then delivered to the school free of charge.

Summer Reading / Required Reading Lists
Schools or individual teachers can contact Greenlight to register their summer reading lists or other required reading lists, and Greenlight can make sure to have books on the list available.  We can also post the lists on our website. Students get a 10% discount at Greenlight, so parents can affordably fill their kids’ reading lists in one stop (or buy online) while supporting a local bookstore.

Fundraisers
Greenlight can set aside a day, weekend, or other period as a fundraising period for your school.  Shoppers who mention the school’s name while checking out at Greenlight (in the store or on our website) during the fundraising period will have 20% off their purchase donated back to the school. Some restrictions and blackout dates apply.

Bulk Sale Discounts
Greenlight offers bulk discounts to educators and schools purchasing quantities of books for classrooms, libraries, or student giveaways. Discounts vary by order quantity and publisher policies; use the contact below to request a quote.

Educator Discounts
Greenlight Bookstore offers 10% off to all teachers and educators, every day.  You don’t need a special card to get your discount; just present your school ID or other proof of educator status when you check out. And you can get the same 10% discount when ordering online at www.greenlightbookstore.com.  Just mention your title and school affiliation in the “order comments” field, and your discount will be applied before your credit card charge is finalized.
