Book Launch: Domenica Ruta discusses With Or Without You with author Emma Straub
Brooklyn author Domenica Ruta’s debut work With Or Without You has won advance praise from authors including Kathryn Harrison, Amy Bloom and Gary Shteyngart, and Greenlight is honored to host the book’s launch. Before she was receiving prestigious residencies at Yaddo and the MacDowell Colony, Domenica Ruta was a girl growing up in the hardscrabble town of Danvers, Massachusetts, in the shadow of her larger-than-life mother, a drug addict and sometime dealer. As Ruta navigated her mother’s mercurial temper, struggled to gain social footing at school, and formed her own palate for drugs and alcohol, she kept her sights on a world outside the one her mother created. But even after escaping to private school, college and an MFA and cutting her mother off, Ruta struggled with her own demons and her memories. Ruta discusses her book with author and journalist Emma Straub, author most recently of the novel Laura Lamont’s Life in Pictures.
