Amity Gaige discusses Schroder with author Adam Haslett
Amity Gaige’s third novel, Schroder is the story of an idyllic time in the life of a father and his six-year-old daughter – just before he is apprehended for lying about his identity for years. The novel has been praised by authors including Jennifer Egan (“This offbeat, exquisitely written novel showcases a fresh, forceful young voice in American letters”) and Jonathan Franzen (“The measure of Gaige’s great gifts as a storyteller is that she persuades you to believe in a situation that shouldn’t be believable, and to love a narrator who shouldn’t be lovable”). Gaige discusses her new book with author and journalist Adam Haslett, author of You Are Not A Stranger Here and Union Atlantic, who writes of Schroder, “This is a bullet of a novel, aimed at our pieties about parenthood and familial love.
