Manhood Revisited:
David McConnell, author of American Honor Killings: Desire and Rage Among Men
In conversation with Ken Corbett, author of Boyhoods: Rethinking Masculinities

In his new book American Honor Killings from local publisher Akashic Books, author and journalist David McConnell examines explores cases of straight men killing gay men, from small-town Alabama to Queens, New York. The book recounts some of the most notorious crimes of our era, and suggests that instead of “gay panic” or even vague “hate crimes,” such murders are “honor killings” in which a whole society is complicit. McConnell discusses his book and the attendant issues this evening with Ken Corbett, practicing psychologist as well as Assistant Professor of Psychology at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. Corbett’s book Boyhoods: Rethinking Masculinities argues for a new psychology of masculinity, one that is not strictly dependent on normative expectation. Join us for a discussion with two authors challenging notions of boyhood and manhood in America.
