Featured Staff Pick: L-vis Lives!: Racemusic Poems
L-vis Lives!: Racemusic Poemsby Kevin Coval
A high-stakes collection of autobiographical poems about the author, combined with the re-imagined/remembered history of America's prodigal child and cultural thief, L-vis (Elvis). L-vis is a collage of Eminem, Vanilla Ice, of course Elvis Presley, any & all complicated, naive white protagonists who have used and misused black culture. Watch as L-vis & the author explore and stumble through the impossible nature of the skin & soul. An ancient and messy story. These are brave American racemusic poems. (picked by Angel)

Blogger/Author Pairings: Author Ellis Avery discusses her new book, The Last Nude, with blogger Miriam Zoila Perez of Feministing.com
Introduction by Ron Hogan of Beatrice.com
Our ongoing Blogger/Author Pairings series features conversations between authors and bloggers who share territories, passions, and preoccupations. New York-based author Ellis Avery has been named one of the “Best Writers You’ve Never Heard of But Should Go Read Right Now” by the New York Press. Avery comes to Greenlight tonight to discuss her new novel, The Last Nude, with blogger Miriam Zoila Perez of Feministing.com and founder of Radical Doula, a blog that covers the intersections of birth activism and social justice from a doula’s perspective. Inspired by real events in artist Tamara de Lempicka's history (de Lempicka’s most well-known for her Art Deco portraits of women and her own bi-sexuality), The Last Nude is a tour de force of historical imagination. Ellis Avery gives the reader a tantalizing window into a lost Paris, an age already vanishing as the inexorable forces of history close in on two tangled lives. Spellbinding and provocative, this is a novel about genius and craft, love and desire, regret and, most of all, hope that can transcend time and circumstance. The event is hosted by series curator Ron Hogan, creator of the seminal literary blog Beatrice.com.
