Paul Downs presents Boss Life: Surviving My Own Small Business
In conversation with Loren Feldman
Co-hosted by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce
When Paul Downs was approached byThe New York Times to write for their “You’re the Boss” blog, he had been running his custom furniture business for 24 years strong -- or, mostly strong. With his new book Boss Life, Downs offers a portrait of a real business, with a real boss, a real set of employees, and the real challenges they face. With honesty and conviction, Downs tells the true story behind building and sustaining a successful company in an ever-evolving economy, often airing his own failures and shortcomings to unveil the difficulties that arise from being a boss and a business person. Greenlight co-owner Rebecca Fitting wrote in an early review, “I read Paul Downs’ column religiously back when we were planning and opening Greenlight. I loved (and still love) how he is so open to sharing his experience, both good and bad. He’s a thoughtful employer, and a good writer to boot!” Downs talks about the ins and outs of small business with Forbes senior editor Loren Feldman, who created the “You’re the Boss” blog in his former position as small-business editor of The New York Times, at this event co-hosted by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
